Linda Garland has made her home in Indonesia for over 20 years, founded the International Bamboo Foundation and the Environmental Bamboo Foundation of Indonesia; both groundbreaking and multi-disciplinary in the use and sustainability of bamboo as an environmentally sound, non-wood forest resource. Dr. Garland has focused her energies on finding solutions to environmental concerns regarding the diminishing tropical forest resources. Her prolific work within the Indonesian community was such a stimulus to the village economy that in 1990 she was given the Upakati award, the highest national honor, from the president of Indonesia for her “unselfish contributions to the nation of Indonesia.” In 1995 she was declared one of the world’s top 50 designers by Architectural Digest. She is a trusted advisor of Breath of Hope Foundation, offering her considerable expertise and making introductions worldwide.
